Military use of children takes three distinct forms: children can take direct part in hostilities (child soldiers), or they can be used in support roles such as porters, spies, messengers, look outs, and sexual slaves; or they can be used for political advantage either as human shields or in propaganda. Throughout history and in many cultures, children have been extensively involved in military campaigns even when such practices were supposedly against cultural morals. Since the 1970s a number of international conventions have come into effect that try to limit the participation of children in armed conflicts, nevertheless the Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers reports that the use of children in military forces, and the active participation of children in armed conflicts is widespread. Q. i'm doing a school project and i just would like to know what i could do to help besides raising money and giving it to unicef. :] i wish i could go to the congo but i don't have the resources. marina- no need to be rude. i'm doing a project and i don't really appreciate your "advice". gang rape is actually a serious issue everywhere and you shouldn't joke about it, or whatever you were doing. i'm not kidding, this is serious, what i'm asking. Asked by Maddiiii - Wed Dec 3 12:01:25 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. As a student, there isn't much you can do about it. NATO decided a few years ago not to allow children to fight in combat but if certain governments and militias decide to do that we are put in a position where we could either demand that they stop and do nothing or fight and risk fighting the very children we are trying to save. Countries and organizations are actively thinking about ways to stop this and they are asking for donations like you mentioned.
