McFarland of the 151st Pennsylvania Voluntary Infantry. He led his troops at the Battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. McFarland bravely led his troops on the 1st day of the Battle of Gettysburg. the 151st PA took 80% casualties and McFarland suffered a grievous wound to his right leg, which was later amputated, and a smaller wound to his left leg.
