What can colleges/universities do to help prevent violents acts from happening in school?
Q. In the past few years there has been several shootings and other violent acts at colleges/universities around the United States. What can those institutions do to help stop these events from occurring? More security, metal detectors, check bags, etc? Also, state whether or not you're a college student, because that is an important factor. How much are you willing to give up privacy wise, to be (or feel) safer at school?

A. I'm not a college student but I have spoken up about this subject to my college professor friend several times in the past asking him this very question. I don't think the colleges really have the answers but if one was to look at the experts in the field of violence they will tell you to speak up to everyone who comes in contact with any youth who have been hurt. Work with friends, law enforcement, health care workers, schools, employers, and court systems to help young people recover emotionally as well as physically. Be there for them, spend more time with them, and listen if they want to talk about their feelings or worries. Injury is not just physical so give them a safe place to talk about how they feel, not just once but many times.… [cont.]

Does anyone know some good flight universities or colleges in Ontario?
Q. I am just wondering about some good flight universities and colleges that are in Ontario. And i would like to know how you become a commercial pilot from that. Im guessing that after you graduate highschool, you go to the college/university and get your licences and rating while your getting your degree in aviation. Then after your done, you get a job as an instructor and build time to get a atpl.

A. Here's one. The University of Western Ontarion has an aviation management degree and you can get your CPL through their program. I have a friend who lives in Toronto that went there in the 80's and he has had a very successful flying career. Go to While you don't need to have a college degree to fly professionally, it helps you to be more competetive in the job market if you do. You don't need to learn to fly at a college or university, but if you can afford it this is a good way to go. The management degree also gives you something to fall back on if for some reason you cannot get a flying position or you lose your pilot medical, or you just plain decide to quit flying. In that case you need another skill, and business management is… [cont.]

What are some top selective colleges/universities in California?
Q. I'm searching for a list of some of the highly selective/pretty selective colleges and universities in the state of California. I'm so far interested in the UC's (University of California), USC and Claremont Colleges (although the schools are pretty divided by interest). What are some colleges in California that are prestigious, research universities with a wide range of majors? They don't need to be in their own group like the Claremont colleges and the UC's. Thank you in advance!

How are Colleges and Universities different by calling them "Colleges" and "Universitys"?
Q. Well, you see I am a high school sophomore and I have been browsing through some college/universities sites to get a head start and idea of what I want to do. I was wondering how colleges and universities are different by there name. Is there a difference between the two? Does it make any difference in going to a University or College, as in education wise?
Asked by o e coo l - Thu May 21 20:22:53 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. If a school is called a 'College' then it usually means that it does not offer anything higher than a bachelor's degree. Also - a university has many colleges within it. For instance, my university has a college of arts and sciences, a college of engineering, and a college of business and management. A university also offers degrees higher than bachelor's. There is also no difference education-wise if you're going for your bachelor's.

What are some of the best Music Performance Colleges/Universities in America?
Q. I'm in high school, and I play the french horn, a brass instrument. I am beginning to look at colleges and universities for majoring in Music Performance. What are some of the best Music Performance Colleges/Universities in the US? I plan to double major probably in the medical field, because a music career will not provide the financial support I'll need. If any of the schools have a good medical/science program, that's even better.

A. Juilliard in NYC and Berklee (spelled this way) in Boston are oustanding. I know a jazz performance major at Berklee. But because you want to also have a non-musical major, I suggest a large university. Perhaps even Ohio State, if you don't fear the size. It's got an outstanding music program and is also internationally renown for its education across many fields.

What are the best colleges/universities for a BS in Nursing?
Q. I will be applying to colleges soon and I want to get my BSN and continue on to be an RN or NP. Which American or Canadian 4 year universities have the best nursing programs? Is the University of Texas @ Austin nursing program any good? Thanks for any help!
Asked by doodle - Sun Jan 11 22:55:13 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Honestly, as long as the school's nursing program is accredited by either the NLNAC or the CCNE then the school is just fine. You don't need to go to a big-name school with a well known reputation to get an excellent education in nursing, and going to a lesser known school will not impair your career prospects or future educational plans if you want to go on to grad school.

A. Your high school guidance department is instrumental your senior year and will have all dates and time-lines established for you. They will no doubt provide opportunities for ACT and SAT preparation... take advantage of it. As for financial aid, the most important date is early January to submit your paperwork for FAFSA. You can certainly start applying now to colleges/universities, but be aware many now charge a fee to consider your application. You can best use your time now to decide the schools that meet your needs to narrow down your list. Once you have a list of perhaps 6 schools, you can find out their admission standards on-line; that means you'll know what kind of ACT/SAT scores are needed, in addition to GPA and other… [cont.]

Are there any private colleges that transfer credits to state universities? ?
Q. Can anyone tell me some good community, technical, or private colleges that have transferable credits to state colleges/universities? I have been reading a little bit about JCC. Are there any other schools? I would like to go to a school that can help me get into a good university, but I do not want to have to redo credits that I already earned. I live in Louisville, Kentucky.
Asked by Kris - Thu Nov 20 20:09:29 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Sure, but there is no universal answer to this question. Schools have what are called articulation agreements with other schools. You can request a copy of an articulation agreement between schools to see what exactly will transfer and as what. Many times, you can just find these on the school's website.

All of these colleges have good academics but how would you rank them collectively in terms of social life, school spirit, diversity, basically just a good all around. Q. I am considering applying to these Universities in my upcoming senior year. All of these colleges have good academics but how would you rank them collectively in terms of social life, school spirit, diversity, basically just a good all around. Here are the schools: Northwestern University, Brown University, Dartmouth College, Virginia Tech, Duke University, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Virginia, University of Central Florida, and University of. Florida. Thank you
