What percentage of injury accidents are side-impact accidents?
Q. My hypothesis is that, although it is well-known that side-impact accidents are often serious accidents, the RATE of accidents that are actually side-impact is very low. Why? Because almost all of the time, the cars involved are going in the same direction, which usually creates a rear-end collision, or they are going in the opposite directions, which creates a front-end or glancing collision. So, aside from the multibillion dollar industry in selling people airbags that are not necessary, what is the real, actual percentage of accidents that are side collisions?
Asked by Oldwhiteguy2earth - Tue Aug 28 22:21:35 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Side-impact crashes account for nearly one of every four traffic fatalities, or 10,000 U.S. deaths each year. Nearly half of those deaths are from head injuries. And experts fear fatalities will rise as crashes involving trucks become more frequent. To prevent head injuries, safety advocates favor a variety of measures. Automakers could reinforce doors and side pillars. They could lower the ride height of sport utility vehicles. Or they could design trucks with front ends that crush upon impact to absorb more force in a crash. But these measures could hurt the performance and market appeal of trucks, so automakers are trying to improve side-impact airbag design

Q. Two plane accidents happened within days of each other in 1963. The first occurred when a DC8 ran off a runway in London. The second resulted in the deaths of all 118 on board. What was the name of the airline whose planes were involved in both accidents?

A. Below are all the plane crashes in 1963 including carrier and fatalities. The site lists all info you are looking for. It was too much to cut and paste here. If I count right, there were 57 crashes that year.

How long do car accidents affect my insurance rates?
Q. I have heard that accidents and tickets will affect car insurance rates for five years. I was in an accident four years ago, that was determined to be my fault. Now, my (old) insurance company just settled this claim. Is this going to affect my rates for five years from the settlement date or from the date of the accident?

What is the number of accidents per mile whilst driving a car forwards compared to reversing?
Q. I would guess there were a lot more accidents when reversing per mile than driving forward because of the difficulty seeing whats behind you, and I am aware of a few accidents caused when reversing, but what is the ratio?
Asked by Peter F - Wed Jan 28 14:27:07 2009 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A rough guide is that 1.6% of all injury accidents in the UK involve a reversing vehicle. This would equate to an average of about 4500 accidents per year, the vast majority involving cars. As the reversing manoeuvre is very short the accidents per mile would be absolutely massive.

Q. What good does attornies for accidents they do not help you recieve more money, recieve it any faster, and if the insurance companies can still get by not paying for all of the medical bills and if they won't even help you recieve your lost wages from loss of work sooner. From everything I've read online along with answers recieved on my other question about my car accident, it appears to me that theres nothing I can do to get my lost wages sooner, make them pay all bills occured from the accident, or even get a settlement faster than I would w/o an attorney. So why hire an attorney who will collect 10 1/2% of any settlement I may eventually recieve if having an attorney does not protect your rights or help in anyway?

A. it depends on the extent of your injuries and the damage to your vehicle. if the injuries are great, and life altering then you might want an attorney. like broken bones, overnight hospitization, surgeries, etc. if the vehicle is totaled, then you might want to consider an attorney. also, if there is any doubt to who is at fault, like if the other party did NOT get a citation, but you feel they were at fault or you have witnesses they were at fault, but no police report to support that claim then you might want an attorney. if it a clear cut case and they admit they were at fault and were cited, then you CAN do it without an attorney, but you need to put your negotiator hat on to do so.. keep track of everything. if you have back or… [cont.]

A. In 2006, there were 13,470 fatalities in crashes involving an alcohol-impaired driver (BAC of .08 or higher) 32 percent of total traffic fatalities for the year. 16,005 people were killed in the United States in alcohol-related* motor vehicle traffic crashes (BAC of .01 or higher). In 2006, 1,794 children age 14 and younger were killed in motor vehicle crashes. Of those 1,794 fatalities, 306 (17%) occurred in alcohol-impaired driving crashes. Children riding in vehicles with drivers who had a BAC level of .08 or higher accounted for half (153) of these deaths. Where to find Ground Crew caused incidents and accidents information?
Q. I'm trying to do a small report and decided to do it on ground crew incidents and accidents in aviation. I've read that Pilot error has decreased greatly since the 80s but incident and accident rate hasn't gone down so I thought I'd research on Ground crews. Anybody know where I can find information on accidents and/or incidents caused by ground crew mistakes?
Asked by aerojo05 - Tue Apr 15 17:00:31 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. www.ntsb.org/aviation the database is searchable and extremely large and extremely comprehensive for the US as long as the incident met the NTSB reporting standards. You'll find very little on minor incidents though, such as "hangar rash" unless the damage was substantial. One main reason for the decrease in "pilot error" is the change in paradigm about what constitutes pilot error and the way accidents are classified in a much more comprehensive fashion now versus the past.

Do nonstop filghts have fewer accidents than flights than have stops?
Q. My boyfriend and I were having a discussion about nonstop flights vs. flights that have stops. We have different opinions about this, so we need you to clear this up for us. His opinion is that nonstop flights have fewer accidents? On the other hand, I dont think that this is true. I do not think that it is stasistically correct. My opinion is that flight accidents just happen either way due to many causes. So can you clear this up for us. Do nonstop flights have fewer accidents than flights than have stops?
Asked by resto_us - Thu May 29 13:37:56 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. well seeing how a flight can be non stop for someone and have stops for someone else on the same flight just depends on when you get on and when you get off.. very few planes just go back and forth between two airports... most make jumps and stops in different locations on different planes.. ie when i go to NC... I have to travel from chicago on the same plane to Balt. stay on the same plane while plenty get off and a lot get on and we all get off in NC. so its 1 stop for me and non stop for them. just depends when you get on so there is no way that a study could show which had more accidents because planes make multiple stops in a flight its not direct and the chances of a airplane having accidents are very slim just pick the cheaper… [cont.]

Does anybody else think something strange is going on with all of the air accidents recently?
Q. I can't believe how many air accidents there has recently been! There has been at least 4 light aircraft accidents in my local newpaper in the past few months, not to mention at least 3 helicopter accidents and a few passenger jet accidents and diversions to to mechanical failure. Do you think somebody is sabotaging them?
Asked by Sharon T - Mon Sep 17 11:46:55 2007 - - 15 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Nothing strange is going on. You may just be noticing it more, or it may be that the media is starting to panic. Check out www.ntsb.gov, select aviation and go to monthly reports and you'll see that it's a very rare day that there isn't a crash. Crashes happen for every reason under the sun from freak accidents, to pilot complacency, to insufficient preparation, mechanical failures, stupid pilot tricks and stupid mechanic tricks. One of the rules regarding the investigation of a crash is that if the pilot survives an accident, the actual cause of the accident will never be found. That's because the pilot is covering his @ss. So, no, I don't believe anything's happening, I don't believe anyone's sabatoging anything. I think either… [cont.]

How can I help my son to stop having accidents when training him?
Q. My son is nearly three I have tried training him before and he simply wasn't ready, he is now aware when he wants to actually poo or wee and will go on his potty all day long, but only if he is naked from the waist down, as soon as I put him in underpants and then trousers he reverts back to having accidents. I have tried to ask him constantly if he needs to go and also to teach him to pull his pants up and down. How do I overcome this and then move on to being out and about?
Asked by Joanna K - Wed May 23 03:35:12 2007 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Hi, Im in the same boat as you!My lad is 3 next week and finally hes ready to train, and i've been doing it on and off for the past month. He'd wear underpants one day, and then the next, id put a nappy on him if we were going out. big mistake, he'd just be back to square one next time i put undies on him. For the past week we've kept him in undies, all day, everyday, and gradually he's having less accidents. Also, if hes doing something interesting, he'll wee in his pants. What i do is leave him in them for a while so he knows its not a nice feeling, and he's starting to gain more control. Now, if he does wet himself, its only a drop, and he can save the rest for potty. My advice- be consistant (only a nappy at night), and let him… [cont.]
