How is the United States Air Force Academy place among the other four Military Academies?
Q. If possible, can you rank the 5 military Academies in order? I just got accepted to the Air Force Prep School and am wondering what types of people that graduate from the Prep School doesn't get accepted the the Air Force Academy.

A. First, to qualify my answer: I am a graduate of USAFA and worked at USNA shortly after commissioning (I cross-commissioned to the Navy because I could not fly). I also applied and lived near West Point and Kings Point growing up so I saw them both close up repeatedly. I have never been to the Coast Guard Academy and was not interested in attending. I would rate the academies as such: 1. USAFA better well-rounded education. All courses are 3-credits, you do not get additional credit hours for classes with labs so you have to complete a heavier course load to graduate. They also have a wider variety of majors than the others. The athletic facilities are far superior than the other academies and Colorado has some great scenery. … [cont.]

Is it true that the Naval Academy is somewhat more hostile towards women than the other academies?
Q. If not, is it true that the Air Force Academy is particularly more--or less, hostile towards women than the other service academies?
Asked by thursday915.2008 - Sat Jan 17 18:17:55 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Annapolis is indeed one of the harder academy's to attend. It cuts no quarter for women who attend this facility. Unlike the army, it hasn't dropped standards to accommodate women, if they wish to become Naval or Marine officers, they will train alongside these men. Perhaps this is where the misunderstanding comes in. Women must be up to the test if they wish to be Annapolis grads and Naval or Marine Corps officers.

Q. I'm going into law enforcement and have read that putting yourself through a police academy is better than waiting to be sponsored by a PD. I'm having no luck looking around and finding police academies. I guess I'm not looking the the right places. Does anyone know of police academies in or around Texas? I'm in the San Antonio area, but I'd go anywhere in Texas, as I have family pretty much all over.

A. At Tarrant County College in Fort Worth. There is one on the NW campus at Marine Creek Road. There are also relatively inexpensive aviation maintaince, and fire training academies. Residents of the county for six months get a huge break in fee's. The aviation training program is a special bargain. It is nation wide known now, rivals the two year programs of Spartan and Embery-Riddle. The FAA sponsors it. I hope this information helps more than one person. The police and fire fighter programs are also outstanding.

I won't go into detail, but don't refrain from recommending something because you think I can't make it. A. Well, it mostly depends on what instrument you play. There are a lot of excellent festivals that are for only one instrument. But some of the top in USA are the Aspen Music Festival, Tanglewood, and Brevard Music Center. Aspen is definately the most prestigious. If you are interested in chamber music, Marlboro in Vermont is top notch. good luck!

How does the Coast Guard Academy hold up with the other Service Academies?
Q. I have been looking into the Coast Guard Academy. I was wondering if it was in fact looked upon as prestigious and an honor to be appointed there. How does it compare to say West Point, Annapolis, or USAFA? What are my possibilities service wise being an officer for the CG, I'm looking into majoring in Civil Engineering. Also how competitive is it to get into compared to the others?
Asked by rmack121 - Tue Jun 2 18:57:42 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. It is accredited by the same organizations that accredit the other service academies, so we are at least equal there... All of the service academies are considered to be "prestigious" so a degree from any of them is a good thing. CE is a good degree program, and there wouldn't be a problem building a career out of CE. It is MUCH easier to get into than the other academies for a couple reasons... First, fewer people know about it, so fewer people apply. Secondly, you don't need to have a Congressional nomination to attend.
